Santa Ball Garland

Ho!Ho!Ho! This Santa Collector loved making this festive garland and I can't wait to include it in my Santa display. It is going to add a little bit of whimsy and fun to my holiday decor.

OK, let's get started with this tutorial...

Materials:

  • one bag of small Styrofoam balls
  • pencil
  • black Sharpie
  • red, black, silver paint
  • paint brush
  • red and green seed beads
  • needle
  • wire for making jewelry

Instructions:

1. Use the pencil to draw a band around the middle of all the styrofoam balls.

2. Draw a belt buckle inside the band on all of the balls.

3. Paint the outside of the buckle silver, or yellow would be good too.

4. After painting all the buckles it is time to paint the entire belt black.

5. Now paint the top part of the balls red and set them aside to dry. Once the top is dry paint the bottom part of the balls red. I put two coats of red paint on both halves.

* I found that an egg carton works wonderful when painting the styrofoam balls. The balls fit perfectly in the carton and the paint dries with no smudges.

6. When all the paint is dry trace the entire belt with the black Sharpie.

Now, it is time to start constructing the garland.

Get a long piece of wire that is used for making jewelry and make a loop knot in one end of it. Then start stringing the beads on. I used 40 beads in between each of the Santa balls.

7. OK, so string 40 beads and then thread the wire through a needle and poke it through the middle of one Santa ball.

8. Repeat step 7 until all the Santa balls have been strung on the wire.

9. Make a loop knot at the end and you are ready to hang your Santa  Garland.

See, the Santa Garland Decoration is not difficult to make, it just takes a little time because you have to paint all the styrofoam balls and then string them along with all those beads.

Feel free to buy one styrofoam ball (whatever size you want) and make just one Santa Ball to hand as a tree ornament too.

After the ball is made attach a string so you can cheerfully hang your Santa Garland Decoration up for all to see.

Oh, and watch your visitors carefully when this see this garland decoration because you may just see a little round belly, that shakes with laughter, like a bowl full of jelly .
